West Sussex will be running 2 Return to Teaching Courses during academic year 2010/11.

AUTUMN 2010 - 21st September - 3rd December 2010 - ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS NOW

SPRING 2011 - January - March 2011 - Application date tbc

N.B  We are receiving an unprecedented number of applications for our courses.  There is no closing date for the Autumn 2010 course as recruitment is continuous.      Interviews are offered on the strict basis of date of receipt of application and the first round of interviews have now taken place.  You should therefore apply at the earliest opportunity.

Participants will receive a training bursary of up to £150 per week and reimbursement of relevant childcare costs (up to a maximum amount) while on the course.

To be eligible for these courses you must:

  • have qualified teacher status (QTS) to teach either primary or secondary phases in England
  • have been out of the teaching profession for at least 12 months
  • have not completed more than 30 days supply teaching experience within the last 12 months
  • have not previously completed a TDA funded RTT course
  • wish to return to teach in England.
  • in most circumstances be applying to return to the phase for which you qualified. Return to Teaching courses cannot be used as conversion courses from one phase to another.

Overseas Trained Teachers who qualified within the European Economic Areas or Switzerland, should contact the General Teaching Council on 0370 001 0308 to obtain advice regarding QTS in the UK.

Overseas Trained Teachers who qualified outside of the EEA should contact the Training and Development Agency's Overseas Trained Teacher advice line on 0845 6000 991 for advice regarding QTS in the UK.

If it is some time since you taught in a school, your application will be greatly enhanced if you have recently  visited a school or have been working on a voluntary basis to gain some current experience.  You can arrange a visit through the Open Schools' Scheme - (details of the Open Schools Scheme can be found at www.tda.gov.uk ) or by contacting local schools.  Contact details for West Sussex schools can be found from the following link  http://wsgfl.westsussex.gov.uk/ccm/navigation/category.jsp?categoryID=22001
