Music

music in West Sussex

Pupils and students aged from 4 to 14 have an entitlement to music as part of the National Curriculum. Older students opt to study music for GCSE and/or in a range of post-16 courses.

In West Sussex the programme of music making provided by the Local Authority extends beyond the curriculum and aims to ensure that it is both inclusive and accessible to all pupils, whatever their talents or background.

To complement the work undertaken in schools, the Music Service, which is one of the largest services in the country, provides specialist tuition for pupils and a comprehensive range of performing opportunities in Music Centres throughout the County. These range from pre-school music to senior activities such as the County Youth Orchestra.
