The main aim of the Physical Education, School Sport and Club Links (PESSCL) Strategy is to increase the
proportion of school children in England who spend a minimum of two hours each week (within or outside of school time) on
high quality PE and sport from 25% in 2002, to 75% by 2006 and 85% in 2008; and by 2010 the aim is for all
pupils to have access to at least four hours of physical education and school sport per week.
The strategy is
delivered through 8 strands :
- Specialist Sports Colleges.

- The National PE and School Sport Professional Development Programme.
- The Gifted and Talented Programme.
