PESSCL

The main aim of the Physical Education, School Sport and Club Links (PESSCL) Strategy is to increase the proportion of school children in England who spend a minimum of two hours each week (within or outside of school time) on high quality PE and sport from 25% in 2002, to 75% by 2006 and 85% in 2008; and by 2010 the aim is for all pupils to have access to at least four hours of physical education and school sport per week.

The strategy is delivered through 8 strands :

  • Specialist Sports Colleges.
  • School Sport Partnerships.
  • The National PE and School Sport Professional Development Programme.
  • The Gifted and Talented Programme.
  • The QCA Physical Education and School Sport (PESS) Investigation.
  • Step into Sport.
  • School/Club Links.
  • Swimming.
