Ethnic Minority Achievement Team (EMAT)

West Sussex Ethnic Minority Achievement Team (EMAT) provides additional support to help schools meet the particular needs of pupils for whom English is an additional language (EAL), and to raise standards of achievement for those minority ethnic groups who are particularly at risk of under-achieving. The Team also monitors training and support funded through the Ethnic Minority Achievement Grant (EMAG).

The main functions of the team are:

  • Assessment

  • Facilitating Community Links
  • Advice and Guidance
  • Monitoring provision
