Family Link Worker Service

The Family Link Worker Service (FLWS) is part of Schools Improvement and Support and was set up two years ago by the Children's Fund, after talking with wide selection of parents and schools.

The FLWS aims to remove barriers to learning by enabling children and families to access the services and support they need. Issues could include bullying, family illness or difficult behaviour. Working with other agencies they can ensure children and families have access to a wide range of expertise.

One of the reasons the FLWS is popular is the fact that it is voluntary and parents can choose whether or not to take up the offer of support.

The FLWS works closely with Education Welfare Service and other agencies such as Joint Access Teams. For example, by working with the Inclusion Support Team, the service can reinforce help being given in school to deal with difficult behaviour. The FLWS can support parents so that they can continue the work at home, making it more effective.
