A group of schools were chosen on the basis of this having been identified as an area of priority for their school and their interest in working on an action research project. Headteachers and teachers were invited since it had been identified in previous work that the commitment and participation of the headteacher was significant to the success of the work, through the allocation of time and resources and ensuring the priority was high profile within the school.
The project involved a one day session and three half day workshops and was led by the General Adviser for Early Years supported by other members of the primary team; the process used an the action research framework of identifying questions, auditing, selecting priorities then tracking and evaluating developments.
A core group working on the collation and dissemination of learning from this project, under the leadership of Mandie Travell, AST for Early Years will be publishing examples of practice.
