Professional Learning Academy

group of 4 girls

What is the West Sussex Professional Learning Academy (PLAc)?

The Professional Learning Academy aims to lead professional development across the children’s service. It supports multi-agency and interdisciplinary teams working together to improve outcomes for children, young people, their families or carers.

Across the West Sussex children’s service there are experienced practitioners holding a wealth of knowledge, skills and values that if shared would develop the workforce in its entirety. To extend effective practice across all the new areas of work this initiative provides a framework for professional development that extends and transfers the skills of the workforce equipping them with the tools necessary to work in new ways together.

Creativity is at the heart of the project and promoting innovative practice is necessary to achieve the overall aim. Generating purposeful Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities led by multi-agency teams working with interdisciplinary groups is designed to build on good and effective practice.

We are aiming to:

  • Join up the current provision for coherent planning and delivery of new and existing opportunities
  • Provide candidates with a range of expertise to build on and transfer existing skills, attitudes, experience and competencies
  • Support, sustain and promote existing effective practice that links all areas of the children’s service together
  • Enhance partnerships that lead to the improvement of outcomes for children, young people, their families or carers
  • Reduce duplication of CPD opportunities
