The Spirit of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is a well-established programme of challenges open to young people aged from 14 to 25 years. The programme is broadly aimed at involving young people in new skills and experiences through participating in the activities of their choice within their own Award programme.
The challenges for each level of the Award (from Bronze, Silver to Gold) are based on the activities that a young person wishes to undertake from a range described in the current Award Handbook. The participants are encouraged to progress through the stages of the Award, although it is possible to go directly into a higher level of the Award at certain ages. On completion of the challenges of each Award level the young person receives a certificate of achievement, culminating in a presentation of the Gold Award certificate in the presence of the Duke of Edinburgh at St James’s Palace.
