Information for School Age pupils

School Travel Plans are documents produced by schools to address travel issues, such as congestion at the school gate, encouraging walking and cycling to school and reducing car use.

The idea of a 'walking bus' was introduced a few years ago and has been successful nation-wide. A 'walking bus' is a group of children, supervised by at least two adults, who walk to school along a set route. Children can join the route at pre-arranged points.

The School Crossing Patrol Service, employs 'Lollipop' men and ladies at or near schools to help children and their parents cross busy roads.
