Childcare

The Early Childhood Service (ECS) is part of Adults and Children Services of West Sussex County Council. We aim to make sure that every child has the best start in life and is supported to achieve his or her potential, in line with the five key outcomes of Every Child Matters:
  • Be healthy
  • Stay safe
  • Enjoy and achieve
  • Make a positive contribution
  • Achieve economic wellbeing
The Early Childhood Service, in partnership with colleagues in the statutory, voluntary, private and independent sectors, aims to provide access to a wide range of services including high quality, affordable and accessible early education and childcare services for children up to 14 years of age (19 years for disabled children) and their families through:
  • advice and guidance for new and existing early education and childcare settings- childminders, crèches, pre-schools, day nurseries, out of school clubs and holiday playschemes
  • an extensive training programme, including Early Years Foundation Stage courses, for staff in settings
  • children and family centres - integrated services for children and their families
  • a Children’s Information Service - information on local services for children andfamilies, including the free entitlement (Early Years Provision)
