The Government has designated Support Staff as a key group within schools for continuous professional development (CPD). They have provided the Training and Development Agency (TDA) with additional funding for a range of training opportunities.
The Training and Development Agency (TDA) have written a 5 year plan called Building the School Team.
There are now many different training routes for Support Staff. All have opportunities for CPD through accredited training, at a range of centres in West Sussex, as well as Adults & Children: Learning Inset training programmes.
Any Adults & Children - Learning based training may be provided for Locality Groups by contacting deborah.howard@westsussex.gov.uk. Many Further Education establishments will also offer locality based training for support staff if they are contacted direct.
Leading the way in the area of new support staff roles are Learning Mentors. Their training and development is managed in West Sussex by Naomi Savage at nsavage@wsgfl.org.uk
